Excise services

Excise services

Excise duties are a form of indirect tax levied by national governments on the use of specific products in order to discourage use of these products and provide an additional source of income for the state. Excise duties are generally calculated according to the amount of the product delivered, not the value of the product.

Excise software

To handle our excise services as efficiently as possible we provide our clients with SGS Maco’s excise application. This application can process information that is important for excise representation both automatically and manually. Such information includes the applicable excise tariff per product type or calculation of the corresponding excise duties. As an excise representative we are also obliged to include a minimum of information and documentation in the administrative stock registration at permit level. We keep this ‘booking of &documents’ permanently up-to-date and available to the excise authorities, whereby the emphasis lies on administrative controls instead of delays in the logistics chain. This process enables SGS Maco to handle an enormous amount of transactions quickly, accurately and in compliance with regulations. Our concept was specifically developed to comply with the requirements of ‘Intra EU E-Commerce’ for excise goods but can be used flexibly for all excise goods flows.

We are currently working hard to expand our excise services to other EU member states, including France and the United Kingdom in the near future. SGS Maco does not trade in tangible goods and cannot store and distribute stock.
