Registration requirements for UK plant and product importers

New registration requirements have been established for traders wishing to import plants and plant products to the United Kingdom. It is required to comply with the new regulations set out in Article 65 of the Plant Health Organization (EU) 2016/2031 before July 30, 2020.

This means that it is required for these importers to provide a valid UK registered address or a valid UK registered proxy address via their PEACH account. Failure to fulfil the new requirements by 30th July 2020 will lead to a deactivation of the trader account on PEACH.

Valid UK registered address

Traders who are registered in the UK as importers of plants and plant products and have a business premises or office in the UK must provide a valid name, address and the relevant contact details via their PEACH account. It is important that the business premises or office must be contactable and accessible for visits of required by plant health officials.

Valid UK registered proxy address

Traders who are also registered as importers in the UK in PEACH, but who do not have a physical presence in the UK, can designate an representative. This designated proxy, such as a customs clearing agent, has to be based in the UK. The proxy representative would be responsible for the introduction of plants and plant products into the UK and must fulfil certain plant health import requirements on behalf of importer.
