Subsequent requests for preferential tariff

The EU-Japan trade agreement entered into force on 1 February 2019, but it is not yet clear whether a preferential tariff can be applied for after the moment of import by using a request for reimbursement or a notice of objection. Customs will, however, comply with these requests until 1 July 2019 under the caveat that customs is dependent on the final decision of the European Commission.

Correcting allocated applications

If the European Commission decides that it is not possible to retrospectively apply for a preferential tariff then customs can correct the applications that have been granted if it turns out that they have been incorrectly repaid.
